Totally different to Trelise Cooper, but soooo gorgeous.....

~Now, this is styling~

I complained in my earlier post on Trelise Cooper that although her clothes are gorgeous, her styling didn't do them justice. This is what I call magic styling (for Elle found on cocokelley)

These are more of Trelise Cooper - isn't this jacket to die for and as for the dress .....

~Trelise Cooper~

My favourite New Zealander designer has moved into Woolhara Sydney ~ Trelise Cooper~. Yippee.... no good for my bank account though. I love her use of colour, fabric, detail although I think her styling in these pictures don't do her clothes justice.

~Also~

Another thought, you could also first collect antique prints (usually called chromolithographs or lithographs) of the paintings of Klein, De Longpre or Le Roy.) Make sure they are OLD. New prints are tacky and whatever you do,don't buy giclee prints!!!!!!!! (ie they are prints printed on canvas! A real no no to the collector). Here are some I have found on ebay (quite a bit cheaper but not much!)

~Roses on Ebay~

Thea, if you're really interested in antique roses paintings, then my advice is

  • Only buy what you really love (more will come along ~ don't be impatient!)

  • I Like to only buy original oil paintings done on canvas

  • I like them to be antique or at least 80 years old - make sure you see a photograph of the back (it must be quite brown looking as though the oil has seeped through the painting)

  • I don't mind if they have crackelature (tiny thin crackles in the painting) but that means the painting is quite unstable and you may lose some more paint especially in transit (does not worry me ~ but may worry you)

  • I will not buy paintings that have been 'inpainted' ie when someone has redone some areas of missing paint

  • These paintings are usually done by the Victorian ladies of leisure ~ they are amateur paintings and many of them are copies of the famous Victorian painters living in America at the time paintings these still lives (for example, Paul De Longpre, Le Roy and Catherine Klein)

  • The roses are usually painted almost dying, quite droopy, lying on a table in a relaxed bouquet. Later paintings have roses formally arranged in a vase.

When you search on ebay, I suggest you search ~ antique roses painting or vintage roses painting or old roses painting. I found this one on ebay today, I have bought from this seller before and she is very trustworthy. Noveaurose (is you can't find her, search roses painting Klein and I think it will come up)

~My 100th Post and of course it is about THE SOFA!~

I've decided on the style of sofa, but still having sleepless nights about the fabric. What about these gorgeous images from Sarah Kaye, an agency representing photographers (Chris Everard is responsible for the first two images). I know, I know, only kidding ... but I do wish I had the courage to do this in my home (instead of settling for the taupe linen which I think I will)

~My Shoe Fetish~

I can't decide on these (Gucci, hideously expensive, but with an almost wearable heel)
Or these.... (Marni, not quite so expensive but much higher)

~New Things~

Just a few new things in my house. The pompoms are gorgeous albeit a little wacky. I bought them from an etsy seller called pompomlove (I think). Anyway, just search pompom and I'm sure they will come up. The big red pink feather thing is actually an African hat bought in South Africa last year. Boy, did they give me a hassle at customs but finally let it through. The paintings are vintage paintings from ebay.

~I Wish~

I would LOVE to have a bedroom like this ...... or this......
but, somehow, always end up with something that looks safe and neutral like this.....

~Socks and Sandals (Or you can take the girl out of Welkom but you can't take Welkom out of the girl!~

There is a new trend to wear socks with chunky sandals .... I can't wait for winter to try it out. I love wearing socks and have been wearing them for ages ... finally, I am in fashion! These pictures were taken off the sartorialist (my fashion inspiration) and the shoes are gucci - I likey, I want! (Too bad about the price)

~oH divINE~

via the city sage
I just love this - I am also going to buy some vibrant jewel toned damask (preferably satin, silk or something just as sumptious) and add it to my black leather lounge in my brown room! Then I'm going to change the light fitting (at the moment an old granny style crystal vintage chandelier) for a huge drum which is covered in a plain but strong colour on the outside and a bont (is that a South African word?) heavily patterened, bright, fabric on the inside. You all know what I mean....then.... yep, again more projects that will never see fruition!

~HELP~

Please help.... do not ignore this request.... please! I have chosen my sofa (copying the Anthropologie one) but am having such second thoughts on the fabric. I have chosen a light green linen velvet (gorgeous!) but perhaps with my antique pink cushions it will be too sickly sweet. Please help... at the moment I am thinking.. just go for a taupe linen but that seems such a safe choice (and I'm happy to be a bit bold). Perhaps another pink ... but I have pink curtains and I had a pink sofa once, which was a disaster! ALL thoughts please...

~If I were, 18, 45(kg) and 6(foot)~

Collette Dinnigan
Louis Vuitton (I love the taffeta petticoat)

Elie Saab

Alice Temperley

I have been wearing socks with dresses in winter for ages (I hate stockings around my waist!) but although I love the look of socks with sandals - can you really walk in them - don't you just slip and slide?

Collette Dinnigan

Perhaps because I am starting to think about my son's barmitzvah, I am looking at the fall and spring fashion shows on style.com. Of course, I would have to be 6 foot tall (I'm not), weigh a waif 45kg (I don't) and look 18 (Well, maybe I can pass for a 42year old!) Collette's show was boring, Elie Saab's spectacular, Wunderkind amazing (It's how I wish I was brave enough to dress and decorate my home - eclectic, bohemian, quirky, fabulousness).
